  2. A perfect example of obsolescence by design – safety razors.
Years ago, we had safety razors made of metal, that were so durable they would literally last for generations. It's perfectly reasonable to inherit one from your grandpa. One, he bought as a teenager.
You did have to replace or sharpen the blade every few weeks, but that's just a cheap piece of metal, that when used up could be easily recycled.

But some safety razor manufacturers decided that selling products like that is not profitable. You want returning customers, not ones who buy once and never have to come back. So they came up with those plastic cartridges with multiple blades, that are not only worse at shaving than the old design, but also need to be replaced all the time. Old timers would never buy this crap, but teenagers looking for their first safety razor? They only look at advertisements, and may not even know about the old design ever being used. So they buy the new crap. And buy it again, and again, and again, dozens every year.

  3. As an enlightened member of my community, I am aware of the growing social and economic problems, especially the production and management of huge amounts of waste materials..
However there is a simple solution and a growing grass roots movement that can change our future for the better.
This innovative co-operative movement, has become popular in South Africa since the dissolution of apartheid, and is spreading to hundreds of towns and cities worldwide.
For the sake of all our futures, I urge you to checkout the "ONE SMALL TOWN plan of action" to create sustainable prosperity for everyone. You can watch this video on youtube

  4. while this is just a little dated here and there basically the points made are spot on ! what is more it is perfectly obvious that we have got a lot of evidence about the stupidity of imagining we can just go on and on growing the economy without there being consequences. but it is not "Economy vs a decent life", no degrowth, sustainability and abandoning Fossil fuels and various destructive industrial processes (ie production of throw away plastics, use of toxic agri chemicals , and increase in non-renewble extractive industries) No there are clearly better, more sustainable ways to live, producing greater equity and providing a society and community that values the natural world and abandons measuring success and self worth through the production and purpose of what actulally is useless stuff. A Steady State economy is a solution, based around stable population, restriction of through put of extracted materials , and production of greater equity including re-distribution of wealth. We can and we mus continue the work many have already started to get there ! πŸ™‚ great video Annie !

  5. Yea America sucks, capitalism sucks NO your Progressiveism / Socialism / Communism or whatever you want to label it now, it SUCKS! Shame on you for indoctrinating children with lies this way. Furthermore it's NOT "the governments job to take care of us" you useful idiot!

  6. a 15-minute long drum improvisation.

It contails a lot of different beats and rhythms played so you might cut-out some loops for your needs.

    The kit has:
    – Single kick
    – Snare
    – Hihat
    – 3 toms
    – Broken crash that sounds really short
    – Ride

The kit was old and not in perfect condition.

I also used my sticks to play on some other part of the drumkit, like metal stand for the crash etc.

I also got up and stated running around in a circle hitting sticks together and afterwards hitting drums and cymbals while running around the drumkit. I took my shoes off before I started so you can't hear my footsteps.

    I didn't use a metronome and I know I don't hold the tempo and it's a bit wiggly sometimes.

I think this performace was inspired by band Mr. Bungle.

I recorded this with Zoom H2 handy recorder's front stereo XY mics. It was standing on a table about one meter above the floor. Facing the drumkit and me. It was captured into a 48kHz/24-bit WAV file, then I trimmed the ends and converted this to FLAC using Audacity.

No processing applied, though I think it sounds nicer when you put these effects:

    1. A compressor:
    -attack: 10ms
    -release: 50ms
    -ratio: 2.5:1
    -treshold: around -24dB
    2. A reverb:
    -decay: 1.5 to 2 seconds
    -dry: 0dB
    -wet: around -15 dB

It amazes me how much energy compression actually adds to drums!
