Should a Christian Celebrate Christmas?

This is probably one of the most asked question for this time of year. In the video below I break down some of the main principles the controversy surrounding …

  1. Somehow I think it is safe to say that celebrating Christmas is a wonderful opportunity for us to remember the gift of salvation that God has given to us. The date may not be correct, but why don't we take it as a chance to remember what God has done for us by coming to this world, and bring ourselves to remember that the plan of salvation will done by Christ's second coming. As far as it goes, the Bible should be the one we follow, for it is our great guidance, the Word of God. Anything which contradicting to the Bible should we leave it.
Thank you for the video Pastor Doug, I like it so much and I've learned many things from this video. May God abundantly bless you and your ministry.

  2. "christmas" is dedicated to Nimrod "reincarnated" as his "son"(sun). Do research on Nimrod, his wife and his "son". Easter and christmas are both worship rituals to them. Also, mother/son worship comes from them as well. eg. Mary/Jesus.

  3. Thank you for this video. This is something I’ve been struggling with this year. Just double checking myself because I hear so many saying we shouldn’t. But several things I keep thinking about. One is the scripture that you mentioned about eating the meat offered to idols. But also there are so many things that have been used for satan including the internet. Who’s to say that the people that created the internet didn’t do it further the agenda of satan and evil. There is pornography, satanism, witchcraft, new age and so much more on the internet which are completely against God’s Word. So as Christians, maybe we shouldn’t use the internet? I think most Christians would say that we should use it. Should we change the names of the days of the week because they were named after pagan gods? Or should we change the names of planets because they were named after pagan gods? Maybe we shouldn’t look at the stars because we have decided that certain stars represents some part of Greek mythology (pagan gods). This also goes for things we wear, drink and eat. At what point does this end? We live in a fallen world and it is evil and we are surrounded by that evil until the day that we die. But it is up to us to be a light that shines brightly for God. Personally I have always loved Christmas. Not because of the pagan things but Because in it I celebrate the fact that a Holy God Came to this earth and took on flesh so that He could die for me and my sins. This is a beautiful gift and I love to celebrate His birth. It’s also a time that I hear songs about His birth played on secular radio stations. It’s a time when Church’s are crowded because people who won’t normally go to church will come and I feel it’s important for church’s to take that opportunity to plant a seed for God and possibly lead someone to salvation. And isn’t that the bottom line? Bringing people to salvation? If nothing else, this year, during this season, has caused me to reflect on my own heart and my own intentions and cause me to make sure that my focus is completely on Jesus Christ and his birth and salvation as I celebrated.

  4. I believe when anyone needs to go to endless lengths to explain something, there's something amiss. The Bible does indeed say "Do not as the heathen do…" when addressing the cutting of trees from the forest. It covers from the cutting on through the decorating. It is crystal clear: Christmas trees and such are pagan and called a heathen practice; those who do so: they are called "heathen." Now, I've heard many an Adventist try and run circles around this very plain Scripture and about the rest of Christmas, use history and a gazillion other texts out of context to make the unacceptable acceptable; however, those verses say what they say and mean what they mean. Then there's this much abused verse, paraphrased, that one man esteems one day above another… The same verse other religions abuse to explain away Sabbath observance. Think about that and you will have your answer about Christmas. Why do we use that verse to pooh-pooh their beliefs, and then turn around and excuse our own with it? Christmas is 100% worldly. I therefore observe it accordingly, give secular cards and gifts, absolutely no tree, and make clear why when asked based on Scripture. By the way, go to You Tube and ask for the video of Florida Hospital Church Lifelong Kids Christmas Play, for a full dose of hard-core apostasy and degradation of our heavenly Family. The SDA denomination knows full well Christmas is paganism. But just as other denominations refuse to accept the Sabbath truth, SDA's are equally guilty regarding pagan holidays and attempt to explain them away just as Sunday keepers do the Sabbath.

  5. I love amazing facts and the prophetic teaching of the sda however i have to strongly disagree with practicing the same holidays as the beast power. The origins are clear. Doesn't mean you can't witness on "xmas" but the whole celebration and man made (rome given) dec 25th bday is 100% pagan and YHWH is not pleased with this conformity.

  6. No Idoltary. Never worship pagan ways ever. Teaching a child of a man that is magical mon same day you worship phoney birthday of Jesus. Papacy created Christmas. Why would you celebrate Beasts feast? why i ask? Reindeer, candles, wreaths are all pagan Gods from past. Worshipping Babel. Nimrod and his cane and beard and hat similar to Santas. We should not ever put anything before God ever . He is a jealous God. it is in my stomach not to ever teach christmas to anyone after learning all the truths. whos b day was on it? all the evil kings of the past. we are to worship God the way he says. Cain refused and put wrong things on alter. he did not have spirit. sabbath is Gods day. Never worship stars and santa and above all christmas spirit. we follow holy spirit. not one created by papacy with its sunday law. wow Doug i love you but come on.

  7. God has told us that it is a good thing to celebrate Christmas —- properly.
Here are some inspired words showing that we ARE to do some things at Christmas:

"As the twenty-fifth day of December is observed to commemorate the

birth of Christ, as the children have been instructed by precept and

example that this was indeed a day of gladness and rejoicing, you will

find it a difficult matter to pass over this period without giving it

some attention. It can be made to serve a very good purpose. The youth

should be treated very carefully. They should not be left on Christmas

to find their own amusement in vanity and pleasure seeking, in

amusements which will be detrimental to their spirituality. Parents can

control this matter by turning the minds and the offerings of their

children to God and his cause and the salvation of souls. The desire

for amusement, instead of being quenched and arbitrarily ruled down,

should be controlled and directed by painstaking effort upon the part

of the parents. Their desire to make gifts may be turned into pure and

holy channels, and made to result in good to our fellowmen by supplying

the treasury in the great, grand work for which Christ came into our

world. Self-denial and self-sacrifice marked his course of action. Let

it mark ours who profess to love Jesus; because in him is centered our

    hope of eternal life."….

""But his advent was celebrated by

the heavenly host. Angels of God, in the appearance of a star,

conducted the wise men on their mission in search of Jesus. They came

with gifts and costly offerings of frankincense and myrrh, to pay their

oblation to the infant king foretold in prophecy." by Ellen White in Review and Herald vol.2 1884-12-9

Especially interesting is that angels of God celebrated Jesus' birth, yet now some people are saying that we humans shouldn't celebrate Jesus' birth!!!"

  8. This is exactly why Pastor Gates message EVEN AT THE DOORS is causing awakening because Gods people are asleep, worrying about the wrong things! I would encourage everyone to watch and be Ready! Wake up!

  9. Thus saith the Lord , Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

    Jeremiah 10:2‭-‬4 KJV

  10. Yes there is something wrong with it…although it's true it's not the Christmas tree Jeremiah is speaking of.. it still is not right to celebrate this pagan tradition of man holiday! ! As believers and Christians it's imperative that we don't conform to this world….and as a PASTOR! ! you should be the FIRST LEADING BY EXAMPLE!

  11. Pastor Doug, I think we will lose the blueprint if we don't pay attention to fine detail of the man of sin and his dealings. Paul when speaking to those pagans in Acts 17 said to them, that they worship an unkown god. Now, he was declaring who God really was to people drawn by traditions and philosphies( Epicureans and stoics- these are agnostic). My point is Paul, when declaring his present truth at the time when he preached, the man of sin was not revealed and you using his text when he was evangelising to pagans will not help us because, the holy and the profane where distincly clear in his day. And today a man sits in the temple of God showing himself that he is God. And if we mix the two in an effort to win souls and increase numbers , then we shall miss it. Lets get back to our old time SDA religion brethren and pray for one another that we should not be swayed by the wily foe. He is working signs and lying wonders and the elect are not safe from such.

  12. James 4:4 is clear …""Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God."

  13. Also Christmas trees aren't of God at all. Google search Yule Tree and you'll get a tree decorated with candles that looks exactly like a Christmas tree. Customs don't just pop up for fun and without a purpose.

  14. Christmas has nothing to do with Christ though. And something worldly shouldn't be repainted over in Christianity and be perceived as acceptable. I mean, Jehovah obviously didn't approve of the Jews' chosen method of worship when they made that golden calf in the book of Exodus. Be set apart, as you are called to be. There's a reason why some Christians choose not to participate in this stuff.

  15. well you said a lot of good stuff but your problem is you’re a typical christian … you want to be lukewarm and be everything to everyone, when you were told to be hot or cold… christians never try to understand Matthew 5. 17-19 The Messiah says not one dittle or jot will disappear before all has been fulfilled.. christians don’t understand that the Messiah didn’t come to fulfill the law but to fulfill the prophecy, He can NOT fulfill the law because He is the law, man was given the law to fulfill, and He will be the judge… christians say He fulfilled the law but He specifically says the opposite..
Christian say there will be no more sacrifices…. Ezekiel 43 gives exact dimensions of the third temple, and believe it or not there is an altar in it…. in revelations it says in the day of the Lord people will bring their sacrifices to the temple in Jerusalem, even though they will only be grain offerings there will be offerings and there is an altar. christians love to celebrate their pagan festival of Easter and offer up a swine as there sacrifice… i’m sure God appreciates that !!! but Christians say remember the sheet that came down from heaven with all the unclean animals and God said kill and eat them, that is a parable because God was talking about bringing the Gentiles into Judaism… God gave a very specific list of holidays to be observed so that you would not create your own and defile yourself… The reason God did this is because Christmas is a pagan festival, it is the worship of Nimrod, also Easter is a pagan festival to worship the goddess astora.. so-called Christians loves say I’m a Christian so I’m saved. remember God says there will be many who say we cast out demons in your name, and God says go away from me for I do not know thee… God is talking about the people who love to take that bible and put it under their arm and walk in and out of that church for 20 years and never read it. Church has become a meeting place where the so called Christian go to pat each other on the back… The Bible tells you the road to hell is broad and the road to heaven is narrow, So The two largest religions are Christians and Muslims approximately 1 billion each, that seems like a very large road to me… what Christians have never understood, the reference of the sheet coming down from heaven was a parable to bring gentiles into judaism, but not orthodox judaism, but Messianic Judaism, where the two testaments are one book, now remember since we are in the end of days you need to also add the book of Enoch.

  16. Colossians 2:8 ESV /
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

    Deuteronomy 12:29-32 ESV / 225
“When the Lord your God cuts off before you the nations whom you go in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, take care that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods?—that I also may do the same.’ You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way, for every abominable thing that the Lord hates they have done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods. “Everything that I command you, you shall be careful to do. You shall not add to it or take from it.

    Matthew 15:3 ESV /
He answered them, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?

    Jeremiah 10:1-5 ESV /
Hear the word that the Lord speaks to you, O house of Israel. Thus says the Lord: “Learn not the way of the nations, nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens because the nations are dismayed at them, for the customs of the peoples are vanity. A tree from the forest is cut down and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman. They decorate it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so that it cannot move. Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot d

    Isaiah 1:14
14 Your Holidays and your appointed feasts
    My soul hates;
They are a trouble to Me,
I am weary of bearing them.

He hates when we create our own holidays.

  17. God said this is idlo Worship and it's wrong don't do it.
    Jeremiah 10:2-5.
Mark 7:13. Traditions of men making the word of God of none effect.
I had a chance to winthess the other day and tell someone that Jesus birthday is not on the December 25th. And all these pagan holidays has nothing to do with Christ. Did you know that Buddha birthday is on the December 25th Hercules, Krishna,
Zarathustar, Mithra. And many many other gods. So in reality people are worshipping Satan all over the world on the 25th because he has many names.
    Hosea 4:6

  18. The Bible says that God will not share his glory with idols. Yet we celebrate the birth of Christ on the Birthday of pagan gods. Birthday celebrations in themselves are pagan!

  19. The reason why SDAs celebrate Christmas is because EGW approved of it. Which is one of the reasons precisely why i also reject her. Its pretty bad. She calls the Catholic Church the Beast but then accepts a mark of the Beasts authority. I don't mean to speak ill of her, but she is not what they make her out to be

  20. You are exactly right. But people love Traditions and the are not going to listen to Biblical truth. When People Like Mormons Celebrate Christmas’s and the don’t trust Jesus as Savior. That should be a wake up call for followers of Jesus. Time to wake up and separate darkness from light. Judgement is right around the corner for the USA.

  21. So it's ok because people are focused on the 1st coming of Christ, so we should capitalise on it.
So what are you doing the rest of the year to capitalise on Christ's birth, death, ressurrection and soon return to the masses?

  22. I do not celebrate Christmas as religous holiday or even dedicate it to Jesus. Christmas is not Christian and it will never be it is just a holiday that us sinners created to convert pagans, but I truely believe that God will never accept this holiday. To the people that say as long as you celebrate for the right reseason. My response is THERE ARE NO RIGHT REASON TO CELEBRATE A HOLIDAY THAT GOD DOES NOT ACCEPT IT IS JUST AN EXCUSE TO MAKE YOURSELF FEEL BETTER. The truth hurts whether we want to admit it or not.

The Bible does not give the date of Jesus’ birth, nor does it say that we should celebrate his birthday. As McClintock and Strong’s Cyclopedia states: “The observance of Christmas is not of divine appointment, nor is it of NT [New Testament] origin.”
Instead, an examination of the history of Christmas exposes its roots in pagan religious rites. The Bible shows that we offend God if we try to worship him in a way that he does not approve of.—Exodus 32:5-7.

5 And when Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To-morrow shall be a feast to Jehovah.

6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt-offerings, and brought peace-offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

7 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, that thou broughtest up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:
Celebrating Jesus’ birthday: “The early Christians did not celebrate [Jesus’] birth because they considered the celebration of anyone’s birth to be a pagan custom.”—The World Book Encyclopedia.

December 25: There is no proof that Jesus was born on that date. Church leaders likely chose this date to coincide with pagan festivals held on or around the winter solstice.

Gift-giving, feasting, partying: The Encyclopedia Americana says: “Saturnalia, a Roman feast celebrated in mid-December, provided the model for many of the merry-making customs of Christmas. From this celebration, for example, were derived the elaborate feasting, the giving of gifts, and the burning of candles.” The Encyclopædia Britannica notes that “all work and business were suspended” during Saturnalia.

Christmas lights: According to The Encyclopedia of Religion, Europeans decorated their homes “with lights and evergreens of all kinds” to celebrate the winter solstice and to combat evil spirits.

Mistletoe, holly: “The Druids ascribed magical properties to the mistletoe in particular. The evergreen holly was worshiped as a promise of the sun’s return.”—The Encyclopedia Americana.

Christmas tree: “Tree worship, common among the pagan Europeans, survived after their conversion to Christianity.” One of the ways in which tree worship survived is in the custom of “placing a Yule tree at an entrance or inside the house in the midwinter holidays.”—Encyclopædia Britannica.

Amos 5:21-23 New International Version (NIV)

    21 “I hate, I despise your religious festivals;
your assemblies are a stench to me.
22 Even though you bring me burnt offeringsand grain offerings,
        I will not accept them.
Though you bring choice fellowship offerings,
I will have no regard for them.
23 Away with the noise of your songs!
I will not listen to the music of your harps.

  23. You did an awesome job of addressing most of the key points…maybe a little soft on the Christmas Tree, but overall exceeds expectations! God bless and keep fighting the good fight:)!

  24. All days are with Lord . The day of 25 it is holy to what you believe , if u believe in God through Jesus it is holy to u also and if u believe in Satanism it is holy to what u believe . All days we celebrate how God gave his son Jesus to us through prayer and also to keep his Commandments .

  25. hi doug – here are 3 videos – the FEASTS OF THE LORD – like the 7th day sabbath. we should celebrate the FEASTS OF THE LORD & real day of Christ birth

HERE ARE 20 REASONS WHY. PLEASE doug watch it. MORE SABBATH TRUTH. you said yourself. we should obey God's word

  26. Yeshua was born on the Pentecost day that year. The fulfilled feasts of Passover, Unleavened Bread, First fruit are Yeshua's death, burial and resurrection. Pentecost the arrival of Holy Spirit. If His death, burial and resurrection are so specific, it is impossible that his birth can happen on a day other than a feast day. Trumpet, Day of atonement and Tabernacles (on first, tenth and fifteenth of first month of the year) are Yeshua's conception in Mary's womb and again Pentecost ( in the ninth month) is His birthday. Jewish feasts are appointed times and everything related to Yeshua took place on specific appointed days.

  27. Pastor Doug ~ With respect, what happened to the love & respect you said we should have for our believing brethren? You said this at 7:25 but then left that concept to emphasize exploitation.
Shouldn’t we be more concerned about believers stumbling & being led into idolatry than convenient times for witnessing? After all, we are to preach in season & out of season regardless. Why try to preach from “high places” where demons are involved (1Cor10:20)?

  28. There is No fellowship between light (believers) and darkness (unbelievers) unless the light is used to draw them. How can the world celebrate someone (Jesus Christ) that they know nothing about?
John 15:18 " If the world hate you, ye know that it hateth me before it hateth you."
1 John 2:15 -17 "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him."
vs 16 – "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."
vs 17 – " And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever."
The explanation of Jeremiah 10 is correct. The scripture isn't talking about decorating a tree; it's talking about those who cut down trees using the wood to carve out statues(idols) that they decorate, worship and carry around.
People will do what they want to do. Some will adhere to the truth and some will not.

  29. The only time we as Christians can outwardly profess our faith without feeling abnormal in this disgusting and sinister world is Christmas and Easter so don't listen to anyone who says you shouldn't celebrate Christ, lukewarm Christians are the worst for this nonsense, Jesus knows your heart and if you know what the new covenant stands for you'll know that all you need to do is not to adorn your home with pagan rubbish. Jesus made all things clean and if you don't know this then you have bigger problems than not knowing what to do at Christmas.
