1. I remember my mother cooking for us this banana flower delicacy. We were told that it is a good dewormer and contains lot of iron content in it. I distinctly remember, all of us used to sit together with our mother and pluck the petal of the banana blossom layer by layer, take the flower out and the most important part is to devein it and remove the black stalk which was called "THIEF" and was poisonous. We used to call it Vazhakai Poriyal meaning Banana Flower vegetable. Nowadays nobody puts in effort to cook this vegetable and mostly this gets thrown to the cattle as feed. I am surprised that Rober Von considers it superfood, which indeed it is!!
