Overpopulation – The Human Explosion Explained

In a very short amount of time the human population exploded and is still growing very fast. Will this lead to the end of our civilization? Check out …

  1. It is irresponsible to never mention birth control in this video. Not even once!!! Birth control is the reason that women in other countries are able to control the number of children they have, and give better resources to the ones they do have. People didn't have lots of children because they wanted to- they had them because it was the natural product of sex and generally wives were unable to refuse. True, in earlier years many children were an insurance policy, but women around the world now would like less children so they can educate them and give them a better chance. Promoting safe birth control, and reducing stigma (especially among Catholic and some Buddhist women) for women is the keystone to a safer and healthier future.

  2. Uhh.. I'm not really buying it. I'm not trying to be some conspiracist or anything, but think about this. For the population even stay STABLE, every couple must have AT LEAST two children, and that is just assuming that every single human finds a mate (and that the male to female ratio is completely even for all purposes of this thought experiment). That also means for the population to double, every couple of the WORLD (still assuming that everybody has found a match) on average must have four children each. So with that being said, how many people do you know have four children? Think about it people, I'm not going to tell anybody what to think, but shouldn't we at least consider the possibility that the global population might be inaccurate? Even if every couple didn't have two children, many people die without even having children at all, how could the global population possibly even be growing? The people that choose to have children literally need to have enough to compensate for all the others that do not, so for every three people that choose not to have children, the couples that DO CHOOSE to have children need to have six babies on average to make up for the others for the population to even remain STABLE. Though it might seem obvious, i'll point out that if every couple only had one child, the potential population would diminish by 50%. Yes, we can throw life expectancy into account, but then we still have to consider how exactly the population was able to "double" with life expectancy down that much. 7.4 billion is a LARGE number, and when you venture around the world, it's kinda interesting to wonder where the fuck all these people are.

  6. Somewhat naive to assume that social progress will reach the 'developing' countries as fast as medical and technological innovations will.
In fact, mortality rates will decrease in these countries. Anyways, the equivalent birth rates won't.

  7. This video is utter bullshit. No statement about where population would peak, no consideration of the effect on global warming, food scarcity… or indeed any of the opposing forces which nature will increasingly employ to offset the population explosion.
