Should Canada’s pot convicts get amnesty? – BBC News

As Canada legalises recreational cannabis, what happens to the 500000 people with existing criminal records for pot possession? Video by Dan Lytwyn Please …

  1. Yes. To the Naysayers, and clearly uneducated on the issue. Harry Ansligner led the bureau of Narcotics from 1930. Prior to the end of Alcohol Prohibition Anslingers stance was Marijuana was harmless. In 1936/7 – He lobbied to have Cannabis classified as an illegal drug (Likely seeing funding decreases, and seeing the end of Alcohol Prohibition on the horizon he needed a new boogeyman). Randolf Hearst – Owned Newspaper and Paper making facilities. Another great openly Racist American – Publicly maligned Hispanics, the poor, and African Americans. He used his platform to denigrate Mexicans and “Marijuana”, a Spanish sounding word which he made common usage. Critics argue it was his desire to have hemp included in the prohibition, which he was successful in doing. Now why could that be?

Like alcohol, first time use of weed has much more of an impact than prolonged use does. The difference comes down to I have tried virtually every strain available on Toronto's market, and those strains are unregulated compared to the current product but they always were now weren't they, and I have not once in decades lost control nor even came close to losing control, or not once did I get so high I was unable to function. You feel more from 3 beers, it's a relaxing feeling, and rumours of induced laziness are a joke. I work out 5 days a week, 1hr and 15 minutes a day, I walk a couple dozen miles a week, carry 100 bucks in groceries from the grocery store and I'm 49. I haven't drank in over 5 years, and I haven't been sick a day. I know many like me. I've seen the entire spectrum of society indulge safely and happily.

Your one off attempts to associate someone's poor decisions as "the weeds fault" is feeble. Do you really want an honest game of which is worse, Alcohol or Weed? So don't go down that road and we won't have to remind you of the hypocrisy.

In the late 60's Trudeau Sr. commissioned a Scientific study of Cannabis. This is public record now, an accepted fact. The Scientists came back with a clear consensus Cannabis is harmless and its basis for illegality and punishment are the harm it supposedly does. Punishing People under those conditions is unethical and unjustified. He buried that report, probably due to the US recent attacks on Marijuana, and their relations at the time. Either way anything after that day is officially immoral.

You choose to believe the propaganda, even though the proof and the history are well documented at this point. Who can argue with that level of ignorance? That’s a choice to live in fantasy, and that is the ultimate irony. You want to present a true plausible argument against it, I'm all ears.

  2. And as a parent I think that the Canaidian government has made a big mistake, and if it came down to a vote, I guarantee this would never happen. This isn't the Canada that it used to be. Our past reputation is no longer credible, Today I am ashamed to be Canaidian.

  3. He should be put in prison for admitting on camera that he has been breaking the law for many years. Evan if the law has changed, it doesn't excuse the fact that it was the law and he was deliberately breaking it. And now he has the balls to talk about it. He shouldn't get a second chance at all.

  4. So our government decided to take the money away from the illegal activity by deciding to make cannabis legal. Now they can profit off of legal activity by upholding their legal criminal ways.

  5. If you were aware of the law at the time and willfully defied it, then no. Rule of law must be applied across the board, whatever the law is or was at the time.

  6. fuck amnesty, they should get their stash back man…. that shit is fuckd up right there… you all take his shit throw him jail then let him out and not even give him back what you took? I do miss smoking weed though so freely as a proud american with or without the law on my side… it was cooler when it was illegal imo… now, everyone is smoking it like its cool and its like no dude, its not cool.

  7. Unfortunately for all the haters it looks like amnesty as well as many pardons will be granted as most of parliament supports this. Here in canada we dont like spending hundreds of millions of tax payer dollars to keep non violent drug offenders imprisoned for possession of a now legal substance. And we also dont think their lives should be ruined because that would make us all hypocrites. A hard concept for punitive foreigners to understand I'm sure.

  8. Это важно. Например в СССР и России, люди досиживали в тюрьмах по нескольку лет, за то что уже было легализовано (валютные операции, предпринимательство и пр.)

  9. To make weeds legal is not saying its safe to enjoy. Its to control its hassel. Weeds is harmful to our body (dont point me that stupid additction figure, it does not consider intravenous injection). Its just we lack reseach how danger exactly they are. We need legal way for better reseach not excuse to abuse drug.

  10. It's ridiculous that people should ever have been overcrowding prisons for a harmless deep thinking persons plant. There are plenty of "homegrown" knife Gun Bomb Killers who should be kept in prison instead.

  11. If you make something legal, than all the people with criminal records because of legal actions now face consequences for doing something legal, how the fk does canadas politicians think this is going to uphold?

  12. Curses (Gall and wormwood)

    Deu 29:16 (For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt ; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;
Deu 29:17 And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:)
    Deu 29:18 Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations ; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;
Deu 29:19 And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:
Deu 29:20 The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.

Gall and wormwood. Do you know what is this word gall?

Poppy. Illegal drugs. Sorcery 💊 is death penalty. Revelation 21:8. You can forget about it. You are not gonna make the cut. Bitterness will not get you any where. Degradation.

    What's Egypt?
Egypt=sodom. Unfit to be called Jerusalem. Revelation 11:8. Same sex marriage. No peace of mind.

The nations money laundering scheme through the Clinton foundation.
    The menstruation of the nations.

The blood of refuse. What's blood? The life of the soul. Leviticus 17:11. How are you?

  13. "Sorceries" 💊

will not get you through Revelation 21. Druggy, you can forget about it. Goners. The sixth to go. Bye.

Those magistrates who legalized "sorceries" you are goners too. Revelation 18:23. You will drink the wrath of God in full.

To those who know better the punishment is different from the laymen. Double portion. Revelation 18:6.

"The merchants of the earth" are "the great men of the earth". Our magistrates. Bought and paid for by the sorceries.
They will be lopped off from the top! Back to where you are coming from. The bottom.

Isa 10:33 Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.
Isa 10:34 And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.

from 5332; medication ("pharmacy"), i.e. (by extension) magic (literally or figuratively):–sorcery, witchcraft.

Illegal drugs to get you high for nothingness! Emptiness. From an airhead to another airhead. From nothingness to nothingness. Dumber than a hammer. Worthless and useless. Wasted for nothingness.

Will be blotted out as if never existed! The second death. The death of a soul.

The politicians love to see you wasted!
So they can steal and rob in day time. 😂

Time to audit politicians who took donations(bribes) from Ilegal drugs to wreck the land of living! Micah 7:3&4. Disgusting(abomination)!

Mic 7:3 That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up.
Mic 7:4 The best of them is as a brier: the most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen and thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity.

As if one hand is not enough. Brier is prick. Pricks are Death Angels the destroyers! Exodus 12:23. 2 Corinthians 12:7.

  14. People who indulge in weed, or any mind altering drug, for non-medical reasons, are self abusive, delusional idiots. That being said, I believe in the freedom to being able act like an idiot, as long as it harms no other person. Weed should be decriminalized and the law made made retroactive.

  15. The only reason it isn't legal is because of big farmer!!!!Cannabis has powerful heeling properties, you think they want you to know that? They want you addicted to painkillers!!! My dad suffered from MS before he died we smoked and he said it eased his pain a hell of a lot more than the shit the doctors gave him.

  16. Bad judgement and his attitude of doing no wrong entitlement got him in to trouble they knew it was llegal and they pay the price.
We have a tendency to hold people by the hand here in Canada when they morally screw up.
He would not do time in Canada for his pot smoking but he might of got a fine.Toronto black gang related gun violence homicides passed New York's murder stats this summer. Drugs and gangs are bad and do not need encouragement I still say it is all a bad idea.

  17. Funny how America is called the land of the free but here we are with pot illegal in most of the country and totally illegal nation wide by federal law and Canada it is legal nation wide. So much for America being the true land of the free, we only have the illusions of freedom for a lot of things.

  18. It never should have been illegal to begin with! Of course the government owes restitution to all those whose rights have been violated by this egregious over-reach of power!

  19. I buy weed discreetly at my friends house and smoke it in the comfort of my own home. No ones being forced to smoke or hurt by it. So stupid how we arrest people for doing nothing wrong
